Jump-Start Poetry Writing Workshop – Winter 2015

6 weeks, 1.5 hours per week: Wednesdays, January 14 and 28, February 11 and 25, March 11 and 25

Two Sessions: Daytime 1:30-3; Evening 6-7:30

Series of 6 workshops: $50 or Drop-In $10

Get your poetry engine running with free-writing and structured writing exercises aimed at generating first drafts. Bring something to write with and an open mind to this friendly, safe, and playful environment for beginning and experienced poets.

Facilitated by Toni Hanner. Hanner has led poetry workshops in Port Townsend, Washington, Newport, Ashland and Eugene, Oregon. Her poetry has been published in Calyx, Off the Coast, Gargoyle, MARGIE, Yellow Medicine Review, Southern Humanities Review and many other journals and zines. Her first book, Moonmusic, from Wellstone Press, came out in 2000 and was a collaboration between Hanner and her friend Connie Beitler. She had two books published in 2012: The Ravelling Braid (Tebot Bach) and Gertrude poems and other objects (Traprock). Poet Mary Jo Bang selected Gertrude as a finalist for the 2013 Oregon Book Award. Her partner, fellow poet Michael Hanner (redarrowbooks), has published a number of chapbooks for her, including All Things in Their Shining Forth and Tango . Hanner is a member of the Lane Literary Guild’s Red Sofa Poets, and Port Townsend’s Madrona Writers. She is a 2014 recipient of an Oregon Literary Fellowship. She enjoys European travel, Argentine tango and Michael’s cooking.
